​Behind this tightening of regulations, Bangkok is putting its foot down to put a definitive end to the abuses observed under the former format:
​Illegal Companies and Nominee Structures: The generous timeframe of 60 days encouraged numerous foreigners to settle surreptitiously to manage businesses covertly, thereby illegally circumventing local regulations on corporate ownership.
​Clandestine Employment: The authorities intend to break the momentum of undeclared digital nomadism and professional activities unlawfully exercised within the territory.
​Immigration Control: The stated objective is to secure borders against loopholes and strictly refocus the exemption on genuine tourists.
